STATUS QUO FOR THE 21 PLAYERS IN NORWAY’S U19 SQUAD

A quick look at the Norway squad just hours before kick-off against England in the U19 in Romania.

By Roy Pedersen

It’s a bit strange to identify a “group of death” in a championship with only two groups, but the description is inevitable when the teams are called England, Germany, Netherlands and Norway (group B). In the other group (A) we find Spain, Denmark, Montenegro and host nation Romania. The tournament kicked off Friday with Spain winning 1-0 against Denmark.

Agent1 and the team is landing in Bucharest Friday evening with the intention of scouting future superstars and making some cool video content from this European Championship. We will also post ratings for all of the Norwegian players in their matches vs. England (16:00 CET Saturday 14th June), vs. Netherlands (16:00 CET Tuesday 17th June) and vs. Germany (19:00 CET Saturday 20th June).

You can watch Norway’s matches at VG+ Sport.

Below you will find a short status update about all playeres in the Norwegian squad.

GOALKEEPERS

Daniel Gjerde Sætren – Sogndal

Started all three matches in the final qualifier and seems to be the obvious first choice between the posts. Only has two matches for Sogndal’s first team this season in OBOS but recently signed a new contract.

Magnus Stær-Jensen – Kjelsås

First choice for Kjelsås on level 3 in a team that is fighting for promotion to level 2. Only conceeded 9 goals in 9 matches. Could very well be starting against England since Gjerde Sætren is likely lacking match form.

Einar Bøe Fauskanger – Haugesund

Hailed as perhaps the biggest goalkeeper talent in Norway. Already got his debut in the top league in Norway for Haugesund and also played 3 cup matches. Wouldn’t be very surprised if he starts against England as the goalkeeper spot seems open.

DEFENDERS

Luca Høyland – Skeid

Is the first choice at right back for both Skeid and Norway. 11 matches in OBOS (?) 2025. 20 matches and 2 goals in 2024.

Mattias Øren – Sogndal

4 matches for Sogndal in OBOS so far in 2025. 19 matches and 2 goals in 2024. Started two of three matches in the final qualification for Norway. Seems to be the safest bet amongst the central defenders in the current squad.

Mikkel Hope – Haugesund

Started Haugesund’s last match in the top league in Norway as a right back after getting several chances as a sub. Is fighting for a place on the right back against Luca Høyland and Fanuel Ghebreyohannes unless one of them are moved into central defence.

Fillip Voster Botnen – Viking

One match in the cup for Viking (who leads the top league in Norway) but mostly playing for the U19s and the 2nd team on level 4. Our best guess is that Voster Botnen starts on the bench.

Jonathan Vonheim Norbye – RB Leipzig

Plays for the U19 of RB Leipzig which obviously makes him a big talent, coming from Alta in 2023. Started one match in the last qualification round. Our guess is that he starts next to Øren in central defence against England.

Karsten Ekorness – Stabæk

The only natural left back in this squad. Got a lot of matches for Stabæk in OBOS in 2024 but has only played level 4 with the 2nd team this year. It seems probable that coach Even Sel will play one of the other defenders out of position, leaving Ekorness on the bench.

Fanuel Ghebreyohannes – Egersund

Very promising player with a lot of interest around him. Is a starting player for Egersund on level 2 as right back. We would be surprised if he is not in the starting 11 against England but the question is how Sel will compose the back 4.

MIDFIELDERS

Fredrik Ardraa – Strømsgodset

Has been one of the best players for a struggling Strømsgodset in the top league in 2025 with 11 matches and 2 goals. 5 matches and 1 goal for Norway U19. A sure starter against England from what. we can understand.

Andreas Heredia-Randen – Strømsgodset

Is pushing for a starting spot at Strømsgodset in Eliteserien but in the league so far he has only come off the bench. Is categorised as a defensive midfielder by Transfermarkt. Started 2 of 3 in the final qualification for Norway U19. Should be starting against England.

Lars Remmem – Brann

Already getting minutes for Brann’s senior team who are amongst the strongest on level 1 in Norway (currently 2nd). Central midfielder. Started 2 of 3 in the final qualification for Norway U19. Key player for this Norway U19 squad.

Sigurd Jacobsen Prestmo – Tromsø

Central midfielder who got his debut for Tromsø on level 1 in April 2025. Started 2 of 3 in the final qualification for Norway U19.

Sondre Granaas – Molde

14 matches for Molde in Eliteserien which must be considered a breakthrough although Molde has been struggling. Started their last match against Viking. Central midfielder who, based on this season’s stats, should be a key player for Norway in Romania.

Troy Engseth Nyhammer – Haugesund

Winger from Haugesund. A generational talent who is already part of the Haugesund team. Could easily be sold abroad if he continues his development in 2025. Fantastic left foot and effective as an inverted winger from the right. Has gained more power in his game and was an important part of the G19 national team that won all three of their matches in the decisive qualifying round in Serbia. Key player with x factor.

Attackers

Julian Gonstad – Ham Kam

13 matches and 2 goals for Ham Kam in the top league in Norway. A hard working forward who has produced plenty of goals at lower levels, but has yet to score a goal for Norway U19 in 2025. On the verge of a big breakthrough. Could this championship be the catalyst for Gonstad?

Jesper Reitan-Sunde – Rosenborg

7 matches for Rosenborg in Eliteserien and the Norwegian Cup 2025. Left winger according to Transfermarkt. Started 2 of 3 in the final qualification for Norway U19. Key player for this Norway U19 squad.

Alexander Røssing-Lelesiit – Hamburger SV

2 matches in 2nd Bundesliga for Hamburger SV in 2025. Left winger. Started 2 of 3 in the final qualification for Norway U19. Reported as in form with confidence by the Norwegian delegation in Romania.

Faniel Tewelde – Lommel

4 matches for Lommel in the Belgium Challenger Pro League in 2025. Came from Odd in 2024 where he had 5 goals in 17 matches. Left winger.

Niklas Kemp Fuglestad – Viking

4 matches in Eliteserien and 3 in the cup for Viking in 2025. 2 goals. Left footed right winger. 112 minutes in the Eliteserien 2024 across 7 matches. Substitute for Norway U19 in the March gathering.
